  • #ThankOurChildren campaign - our children recognised

    Mon 20 Apr 2020

Today, Sir John Peace, the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire is launching the #ThankOurChildren campaign, which will see every child and young person in Nottinghamshire and the City of Nottingham eligible for an award from Her Majesty The Queen’s representative.

As a Head, I have received a letter from Sir John thanking schools for their contributions at this time. Speaking of the campaign, Sir John said, “We are living through a period which is very difficult for children and young people to go outside and play with their friends, to go to parks and to do things which used to be fun. But their efforts are making a difference to so many people’s lives and I just wanted to thank every single one of them, for all that they are doing.”

In a direct message to all children and young people he has said, “I just wanted to pay tribute to you and your families for everything you’ve done in this national effort. Do not under-estimate the part you have played. I think you’re amazing and please, please continue to give us more of the same”.

We are so proud of our children for their part in our national effort and recognise the emotional upset that has been caused as a result of this crisis. We cannot wait to all be back together again at school when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, enjoy the recognition and the praise - a very, very well done!!

The awards will be sent out by the end of this week to every child at High Oakham via Parentmail - so watch out for these!

  • A welcome donation from Chrysalis

    Tue 14 Apr 2020

A huge thanks to local company Chrysalis for their donation of anti-bac hand gel  - this helps massively with reducing the spread of infection while caring for the children of frontline key workers and vulnerable children accessing childcare sessions at High Oakham Primary through the Easter holidays.

What a fantastic gesture, very much appreciated - everyone working together to save lives and protect each other!

    Tue 07 Apr 2020

High Oakham Primary School remains closed to all children except those of key workers whose jobs are critical in the running of our country through these difficult times in the fight against Coronavirus.

Please ensure that you adhere to the Government 'Lockdown' guidance to Stay in and save lives.

    Stay at home

    • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
    • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
    • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

  • School closure update

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

The Government has now instructed all schools to close and therefore, we will close at 3.15pm tomorrow, Friday 20th March, until further notice. We are sorry that this is the case and we are still awaiting guidance relating to groups who are going to be in school next week and what offer we are extending for our children who are eligible for Free School Meals.

In relation to the majority of children who will not be attending school from Friday - home learning information will be sent out tomorrow. There will be packs that the children are bringing home and if you are not at school currently, arrangements will be made for collection of these. Any concerns regarding collection please get in touch as alternative arrangements can be made.

I know it is difficult to plan, as it is for us, so please bear with us as we make plans.

On another note - we are having what we are calling a #HOPStogether day tomorrow - we are asking families to bring in a tin of food or a long life food item that we can donate to the Bridge Street Methodist Church Soup Kitchen and the Mansfield Foodbank.
Donations can be left on the tables outside the classroom door in both playgrounds this afternoon on collection or tomorrow on drop off or collection.

Rev John Yarrien and I are coordinating support where needed so if you have a concern or know of anyone who needs help, get in touch using the following details.
